A $650 Closing or a Costly Repair

When water freezes inside yourplumbing lines, it expands with enough force to crack PVC, split pump housings, and fracture heater manifolds. The damage almost never shows up in October. Itshows up in May, when you open the pool and find you're not just repairing aline — you're excavating a deck to reach it.A proper closing removes thatrisk entirely. It's the cheapest insurance in pool ownership, and it only worksif it happens before the first hard freeze, not after.

Damaged Pump and Filter
Trapped water freezes inside the housing. Pumps, filters, and heaters crack from the inside out.

When should you close a Denver pool?

Late September through October, in most of the metro. You want water temperatures consistently below 65°F — cold enough that algae stops growing — but the closing done before the first hard freeze.

Foothills and higher-elevation properties in Jefferson, Boulder, and Gilpin counties run one to three weeks earlier than the flats. If you're west of the metro, don't use your neighbor in Aurora as a guide.

October books up

October is our busiest stretch of the fall. Booking in September usually means picking your date instead of taking what's left.

Frequently asked questions

When should I close my pool in Denver?

Late September through October for most of the metro. The target is water consistently under 65°F but closed before the first hard freeze. Higher-elevation properties should plan one to three weeks earlier.

What happens if I don't winterize?

Water left in plumbing lines freezes and expands, cracking pipes, pump housings, and heater components. Because much of that plumbing runs under decking, repairs often mean breaking concrete. It's consistently the most expensive avoidable repair we see each spring.

How long does a pool closing take?

Most residential closings take two to four hours depending on pool size, equipment, and layout.

Do I need to be home?

No, as long as we have access to the pool area and equipment. We'll confirm access details when you book and send a written summary afterward.

What's the difference between Premium and Standard?

Premium includes a complete line blow-out covering the main drain and deep plumbing lines, plus a written freeze-risk inspection. Standard covers returns and skimmers. If you've had freeze damage before, or you don't know your pool's plumbing history, choose Premium.

Do maintenance plan members get a discount?

Yes. Gold members save 15% on openings and closings, Silver 10%, and Bronze 5%.

Can you close a commercial or HOA pool?

Yes. We manage closings for HOAs, apartment communities, and commercial properties across the metro. Call for a property walkthrough and written proposal.
